Mobile Health Unit (MHU) Assessment – Sikar District, Rajasthan

A rapid assessment conducted to evaluate the functioning, accessibility, and healthcare service delivery effectiveness of the Mobile Health Unit (MHU) operating in Losal Village of Sikar district, Rajasthan. The assessment examined healthcare infrastructure, service frequency, staff preparedness, beneficiary satisfaction, and operational efficiency in delivering essential healthcare services to underserved rural communities.

Objective

To assess the functioning and operational effectiveness of the Mobile Health Unit (MHU) in Losal Village, Sikar district of Rajasthan through a rapid assessment approach. The assessment focused on evaluating healthcare accessibility, infrastructure adequacy, service frequency, staff readiness, medicine availability, beneficiary satisfaction, and the quality of healthcare services delivered to rural communities.

Key Outcomes

  • The Mobile Health Unit was positively received by the local community, with beneficiaries expressing overall satisfaction regarding healthcare accessibility, staff behavior, and service quality.
  • The MHU operated approximately 20–24 days per month and visited the community once every month, ensuring regular access to primary healthcare services.
  • On the day of assessment, the MHU team treated 106 beneficiaries, including 31 male and 75 female beneficiaries, indicating strong utilization among women.
  • Healthcare staff were found to be courteous, respectful, and sensitive to the needs of elderly persons and individuals with disabilities.
  • The MHU successfully delivered medical consultations, free medicines, health screening services, and awareness sessions on issues such as HIV/AIDS, breast cancer awareness, tobacco awareness, uterine cancer, and child hygiene practices.
  • Proper record maintenance and strong consistency were observed between reported data and field-level operations, reflecting efficient documentation systems.
  • Referral support was provided for cases requiring specialized care through linkages with nearby PHCs and Community Health Centers (CHCs)
