Mobile Health Unit (MHU) Assessment – Agra District, Uttar Pradesh
A rapid assessment conducted to evaluate the functioning, accessibility, and healthcare service delivery effectiveness of the Mobile Health Unit (MHU) operating in Shyamo Village of Agra district, Uttar Pradesh. The assessment examined healthcare infrastructure, service frequency, staff preparedness, beneficiary satisfaction, medical consultations, and operational efficiency in delivering essential healthcare services to underserved rural communities.

Objective
To assess the functioning and operational effectiveness of the Mobile Health Unit (MHU) in Agra district of Uttar Pradesh through a rapid assessment approach. The assessment focused on evaluating healthcare accessibility, infrastructure readiness, service frequency, staffing adequacy, medicine availability, beneficiary satisfaction, and the overall quality of healthcare services delivered through the Mobile Health Unit.

Key Outcomes
- The Mobile Health Unit operated approximately 20–24 days per month and visited the community once every month, ensuring regular access to primary healthcare services in underserved rural areas.
- On the day of assessment, a total of 111 beneficiaries received healthcare services, including 31 male and 80 female beneficiaries, indicating strong participation among women beneficiaries.
- Beneficiaries reported high satisfaction with the MHU services, particularly appreciating free medicines, reduced transportation expenses, shorter waiting times, and personalized attention from healthcare staff.
- Healthcare staff demonstrated respectful behavior, professionalism, and sensitivity toward beneficiaries across different genders and individuals with disabilities. Doctors spent sufficient consultation time with patients and provided appropriate medical guidance.
- The MHU provided medical consultations, diagnostic screening, medicine distribution, and referral support to nearby PHCs and CHCs for specialised healthcare needs. Health awareness sessions were conducted focusing on:
- Menstrual and reproductive health
- Nutrition and balanced diet
- General health awareness and disease prevention
- Strong documentation systems and patient records were maintained with consistency between field operations and reported data. Opportunities for improvement were identified in patient privacy during consultations, camp infrastructure, and increasing women-friendly healthcare support, including the need for female medical officers for sensitive health discussions.
