Mobile Health Unit (MHU) Assessment – Chamarajanagar District, Karnataka
A rapid assessment conducted to evaluate the functioning, accessibility, and healthcare service delivery effectiveness of the Mobile Health Unit (MHU) operating in Uppinamole village of Chamarajanagar district, Karnataka. The assessment examined healthcare infrastructure, service frequency, staff preparedness, beneficiary satisfaction, medical consultations, and operational efficiency in delivering essential healthcare services to underserved rural communities.

Objective
To assess the functioning and operational effectiveness of the Mobile Health Unit (MHU) in Chamarajanagar district of Karnataka through a rapid assessment approach. The assessment focused on evaluating healthcare accessibility, infrastructure readiness, service frequency, staffing adequacy, medicine availability, beneficiary satisfaction, and the overall quality of healthcare services delivered through the Mobile Health Unit.

Key Outcomes
- The Mobile Health Unit was positively received by the community, with beneficiaries appreciating the accessibility of healthcare services and the effectiveness of the medical camp conducted in the village.
- On the day of assessment, the MHU served 60 beneficiaries, with higher participation among women beneficiaries, and 8 referral cases were identified for advanced medical care.
- Healthcare staff demonstrated respectful behavior, professionalism, and sensitivity toward elderly individuals, women, and persons with disabilities. Doctors provided adequate consultation time and patient-centered healthcare support.
- The MHU delivered medical consultations, free medicines, and referral support to nearby PHCs and CHCs for specialized treatment. Health awareness sessions were conducted on:

- Breast cancer awareness
- Uterine cancer awareness
- Tobacco awareness
- Hygiene and disease prevention
- Beneficiaries reported high levels of satisfaction with the services due to easy access to medicines, reduced travel burden, patient-friendly staff behavior, and personalized medical attention. Areas for improvement identified included increased visit frequency, female medical officer availability for women patients, telemedicine support, and enhanced menstrual and reproductive health awareness initiatives.
